How States University uses cookies and measurement technologies, and how you can control them. The platform uses what it needs to run its courses and certificates and to measure its campaigns. Verifying a certificate works without signing in and without any cookie beyond those essential to the site.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored in the user’s browser. States University uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, measure its use and measure the results of its advertising.
2. Types of cookies used
- Essential: required for the basic operation of the platform: sign-in session, security, referral and invitation links, and fraud prevention in the issuance and verification flows.
- Analytics: aggregate usage statistics, used to improve the courses, certificates and verification service.
- Advertising measurement: first-party cookies that store click identifiers from advertising platforms (such as Meta and Google) when a visitor arrives from an ad, so that purchases can be attributed to the campaign that generated them. Under California law, this may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising; see the Privacy Policy for how to opt out.
- Email measurement: transactional emails (issuance, verification, support) may contain tracking pixels or links, through the email provider, to measure delivery and opens.
Certificate verification does not require signing in or any cookie beyond the essential ones.
3. How to manage cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, including advertising cookies. Blocking essential cookies may affect how the site works. To opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, follow the steps in the Privacy Policy.
4. More information
The processing of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.
